Shelling of Ukraine's power grid: what facilities were hit (MAP)
Russia continues its targeted military campaign against Ukraine's energy infrastructure. We mapped out the targets hit in recent Russian missile and drone attacks. The Trypillia thermal power station, one of the biggest electricity suppliers to the Kyiv region, was destroyed by Russian missiles on 11 April.
Between 8 and 11 April, transformers were targeted to disrupt the power supply system in addition to the Trypilska power plant. Once again, the gas storage facility near Stryi in the Lviv Region, housing gas for European companies, was attacked, as was an oil depot. The full extent of the damage remains unknown.
We have already written that Russian forces changed their shelling tactics, which resulted in greater damage and put the next heating season at risk. The current campaign shifts from targeting power distribution to power generation enterprises and HPPs.

While Ukraine protects its large transformer substations, securing entire power plants proves nearly impossible. Reconstructing damaged facilities is both time and cost-consuming, and it remains unclear if reparation can be completed before next winter. Installing air defense systems near each plant is crucial for meaningful reconstruction, as, without them, the threat of missile strikes remains high.
